So, here we are again, together on the lake shore, just the two of us… 🥰
In a world where everything seems to be turned upside down, and where things only seem to be getting worse with each passing day, I chose to make 24-hour getaway alongside my friend Robert, at Purcăreni Lake, a lake that’s only a 10-minute drive from Pitești. It was my first time fishing there.
It’s not an excessively big lake, but it does provide premium conditions (2 bed-cottage, heating, bathroom with shower, terrace, kitchen, bar, fishing cradle and sling provided by the administration… in a word, all the superlatives).
We only fished for a total of 11-12 hours. At 7 o’clock in the evening, we cast our rigs into the water, and I came to an agreement with my son, namely to not cast out our rods if we were to catch any fish, so that we could have our rest during the night.
After talking to the lake watchmen, I found out that the lake had not been performing brilliantly recently, so, taking into account the length of the fishing session and the information collected, despite being an avid supporter of hard boilies, I chose a strategy based on soluble boilies.
I used a Competition Z hook bait on 2 rods and The Secret on the other 2, both being 20mm assortments from Bucovina Baits, and attached a soluble bag to the rig during each casting out, which included a further 2 soluble boilies and 1 hard 20mm boilie cut in half, next to a few fish meal micropellets. Then, I baited 7-10 soluble boilies using my baiting stick roughly every hour. I used 15cm rigs with a coated braid disgorged 1cm above the eye of small size no. 6 hooks.
From 7 to 10PM we recorded bites on all 4 of our rods, with the star of the show being a superb 15.5kg specimen hooked by Robert no more than 30m from the shore on a Competition Z boilie.
One the second day, at 8 AM, we cast all our rods back into the lake. By noon, we managed to land another 9 or 10 fish weighing between 2 and 10kg, including a sturgeon and a grass carp.
Once again, a proper strategy taking into account certain factors, along with a high-quality bait you have confidence in prove turn out to only bring satisfaction and great results.
Robert… congratulations, my boy, and I can’t wait for our next fishing trip together.
